Over a 10 year period, Darwin has traveled several times to Zimbabwe. He built relationship with the people, discovered their needs, and brought supplies to help train and start micro businesses. Tanya lived on a third-world island for years. Among her adventures was a category 5 hurricane which devastated the country. Once the roof was found, hammered flat, and pieced back onto their home, Tanya’s home became a relief distribution center – even operating without running water for weeks and without power for 4 months.
Darvin and Kim are currently participating into an education and job creation project which has, over the last number of years, positively changed an entire community in Honduras.
Enhancing The Lives of Others
Despite personal experiences and surrounded by our affluent, consumer-based society, these couples still see that they need a regular reminder of their broader, global perspective. When Darwin turned 45 years old, it was a landmark, depressing birthday for him. He couldn’t shake the sense of disappointment with his achievements thus far. He quickly realized, as they were working on the start-up of this Foundation, that he had lost drive which comes from his heart. From outward appearances, he was doing well: good marriage, family, income, home – but he had been focusing too much on the stuff of life instead of the purpose of enhancing the lives of others. Once he was able to adjust his attitude and perspective, the “funk” disappeared and Darwin felt renewed energy and enthusiasm for the next 45 years.
